Marina is an artist. Her moods can be all over the spectrum. Calm or hyper, quiet or talking nonstop, shy or seemingly outgoing. She tries to make friends with everyone. And she's far too clumsy and curious for her own good.

She grew up in and around Natchitoches, Louisiana. Her soft Southern drawl is a sign of that upbringing. Growing up, she always felt as if she was being pulled in several directions. Everyone wanted something different for her, to the point she wasn't sure what she wanted. Or who she really was. Her father was (and is) the monster behind most of her insecurities. She can't remember a time when he was nice to her. Yet she held love for him. The love did more harm than good.

Not long after her eighteenth birthday, Marina ventured out to Los Angeles. To escape her old life. To start fresh. She pursued her dreams and actually succeeded. In doing so, she met Damon and unknowingly put herself on the path to finding out there was more in the world than she could imagine.

That same year, her curiosity got the best of her and she decided to learn more about freshies. Recommendations lead her to Mick St John's loft. Even though she enjoyed his company and some of the young ladies she met, Marina stopped going. She never even got far enough to be bitten. After the experience, she had no interest in trying again until Lenae (the one freshie she kept up with) pushed her to try out visiting the Cullen's. Moon explained it was different and at least worth a try. Though reluctant, Marina did attend. That is where she met Edward, who she is currently in a relationship with.

Under ideal circumstances, she is quite bubbly and carefree. A generally happy spirit. But conditions are rarely ideal. She is more comfortable in friendships than any other relationship. She will act more like herself and tease with her friends. With her relationships that advance past friendship its different. She worries about doing something wrong or ruining it, to the point that she feels she will ruin it with her worries.

Currently, she is trying to rediscover who she is. Trying to be open and more sharing. To gain back the carefree spirit she is deep down.

She was introduced into the supernatural world after moving to Los Angeles. Marina met Damon at her first gallery opening. He felt the need to protect her from becoming a younger vampire's dinner. However, she was unaware of the danger lurking. Since their first meeting, he took to protecting and treating her like his little sister. Her curiosity quickly lead to him explaining who he really was.
